NEW BEDFORD — A New Bedford resident's bank account just had a few extra zeros added to it thanks to a lucky scratch ticket win.

According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, Francis Mendes of New Bedford bought a $10 scratch ticket and was the latest winner of the grand prize, scoring $4 million on the “$4,000,000 Gold 50X” instant ticket game.

Mendes opted for the cash option prize and received a lump sum of $2.6 million (before taxes). While he has no specific plans for his winnings at the moment, he is saving his newfound fortune.

There is only one remaining grand prize of $4 million left on the ticket, with odds of 1 in 5,376,000 to win.
