The city of Irvine has launched a new robot initiative the make sure its sidewalks and curb ramps meet the standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act,

The new inspectors on wheels are named Bandit and Smokey as they are set out to map out all the slopes and cracks on Irvine’s sidewalks.

The robots, made by an Oregon company called Daxbot, are cute and friendly, and they have been rolling through the city.

The data collected by the robots will be analyzed by Bureau Veritas, an engineering company that specializes in data collection and ADA accessibility.

“We’re working with (Bureau Veritas) to provide the city with a heat map that shows the city of Irvine best and worst areas,” said Mason Reeves from Dax
