WAVERLY, Iowa (KWWL) — Drivers in Waverly have faced delays the past two weeks as crews worked to deliver and set in place massive bridge beams for the city’s ongoing construction project along Bremer Avenue. But officials say the project has now reached a major milestone.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, crews set the final span of beams for the new bridge on Thursday. In total, 27 beams were delivered and placed over three days—nine beams each day.

Construction on the project got a late start last year, and weather setbacks have slowed progress. The beam deliveries caused additional traffic congestion, with trucks hauling oversized loads through Business 218 and onto West Bremer Avenue before backing into the construction zone.
