BETHANY, Conn. (WTNH) — A New Haven man was arrested on Thursday on animal cruelty charges, connected to an incident in June where an animal control officer was attacked by an abandoned dog, police say.
On June 20, around 8 a.m., Woodbridge Regional Animal Control responded to Carriage Drive in Bethany for a report of an injured German Shepherd.
An animal control officer attempted to secure the dog, but said she was "lunged" at, knocked to the ground and bitten several times in the wrist and forearm, according to Woodbridge police. Her head additionally struck the pavement during this incident.
After asking for assistance, police gained control of the dog and the animal control officer was hospitalized for treatment.
