The South Carolina Department of Public Safety is reporting fewer collisions and deadly crashes during this year's "100 deadly days of summer" compared to last year.

"That's when school gets out. You have more teen drivers on the roads, so that means more inexperienced drivers on the road," Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway said. "That gives the teenagers more freedom, so that's typically why we see those fatalities spike."
The preliminary data was released by the agency on Wednesday.
Compared to 2024, DPS reports traffic collisions are down 20%, fatalities are down 14% and alcohol and drug-related collisions are down 16%.
