“Up-the-Road Down-the-Road” traces the history of the town

It would be hard to imagine someone better equipped to write the history of Kitty Hawk than Bill Harris. His roots with the town went deep, with generations of ancestors going back at least to the early 19th Century.

Harris took on a lot of roles in his life. He served in the Coast Guard for nine years. He had a 35-year career with the National Park Service beginning and ending at the Wright Brothers Monument—with stops along the way that included the Battle of Little Bighorn in Montana and Fort Sumter, South Carolina among others.
