A new Alaskan true crime documentary, “Blood and Myth,” is set to premiere on Hulu this Thursday, September 4th. The series, written and produced by lifelong Alaskan James Dommek Jr., was largely filmed in Alaska and is based on his 2019 audiobook, Midnight Son.

Dommek, who was born and raised in Kotzebue, began developing the story about eight years ago.

“I started off with an idea for a story about eight years ago, and here we are today and I'm getting emails saying there's going to be billboards in LA and New York City, and this doesn't really happen to people where I'm from,” Dommek said.

The documentary centers on the case of Teddy Kyle Smith, a rising actor from Kiana, who was accused of shooting two hunters over a decade ago. Smith was later convicted of attempted murder, claimin
