Kodiak Oil Spill

An oil spill has closed commercial fishing in parts of the Kodiak area until further notice. A fishing boat had two of its fuel tanks damaged when it ran aground in Izhut Bay on Monday. According to the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, at least 3,000 gallons of diesel fuel spilled into the waters near the Kitoi Bay Hatchery. Cleanup resources are en route.

Mendenhall Glacier Accident

A man reported to be a researcher from Italy has been missing after falling into a stream on Mendenhall Glacier. Alaska Wildlife Troopers say the water pushed the man into a small opening on the ice. Rescue teams have determined it's too dangerous to try and find the victim, saying that the hole he was swept into has filled with rushing water.
