A consistent pinch point on Interstate 84 will undergo a major change.

The Route 8, I-84 interchange, also known as the Mixmaster, is on the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s docket for a complete overhaul.

The stretch of highway has a bit of a reputation among drivers.

“I don’t like it…too much traffic,” Maria Soto, of Waterbury, said.

Others described the challenges, like Nicole Rivers, said, “It’s hard to switch over to get from Route 8, to 84, to the other side of Route 8.”

The stacked highway was an engineering feat back in 1968 when the original ribbon was cut and traffic took over. But it was built for 1968 traffic volume.
