LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — Arkansas State Police (ASP) have positively identified human remains that were initially discovered nearly five decades ago in rural Lee County.

According to investigators, the remains were found on Jan. 13, 1977 in a farm field near US Highway 79 just a few miles west of Marianna.

ASP investigators said that the skeletal remains were submitted to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory Medical Examiner's Office, but attempts to identify the remains at the time were unsuccessful, and the cause and manner of death could not be determined.

Fast forward to March of 2024 and Cold Case Unit of ASP worked to reexamine the case in an effort to determine the person's identity. The remains were consequently sent to Othram Labs, which ASP described as a "a private Texas-based
