Michigan's Great Lakes could see powerful waves up to 14 feet high throughout Friday, Sept. 5, the National Weather Service said while issuing gale warnings.
" Swim risk will be high for all West Michigan beaches from late today (Sept. 5) through Saturday morning (Sept. 6). Winds will increase through Friday morning with waves building to 7 to 12 feet by Friday morning," the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids said on X. "Waves will be 5 feet and above through Saturday morning. Expect swamping of piers."
Gale warnings , small craft advisories and high swim risks are in place for select beaches of Lake Michigan, Lake Superior and Lake Huron because of strong wind gusts up to 40 knots (46 mph) creating high waves and rip currents.
