HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A bridge in Huntington is getting an upgrade, with a goal to reduce the risk of flooding in neighborhoods along Four Pole Creek.

DOT crews have started the Beechwood Bridge Replacement Project near the Memorial Arch.

The bridge will be closed through the winter while crews work.

City officials said this isn’t just a new bridge, it’s actually a new design that will allow more clearance for water to flow through, cutting down on the risk of flooding.

This will be one of eight originally scheduled bridge replacements along the creek.
