Another Welland Jackfish-Guelph Royals semifinal is in the books; specifically, the Intercounty Baseball League score book.

For the second year in a row, the five-game series went the distance. Unlike in 2024, when the Jackfish came into the second-round series as the defending Dominico Cup champion, home field was an advantage this time out.

Last year, the visiting team won each game in the second-round series. It was the complete opposite in a rematch clinched by the Jackfish in an 8-1 victory on Thursday night at Welland Stadium.

“Having home field was the advantage we had, and we used that this time around,” manager Brian Essery said after the Jackfish rebounded from a 2-1 loss the night before at David E. Hastings Stadium in Guelph.
