On Friday, local dignitaries cut the ribbon on The Joan and Irwin Jacobs Performing Arts Center in Liberty Station.
After nearly eight years and $43.5 million, the curtain is finally set to rise on a new state-of-the-art performing arts center.
Qualcomm founder Irwin Jacobs joined Mayor Todd Gloria and other local dignitaries to officially cut the ribbon on The Joan and Irwin Jacobs Performing Arts Center.
“The Joan,” as it will be known, is located at the corner of Roosevelt Road and Truxton Road in Naval Building 178.
“It kind of anchors our Arts District,” said Arts District Liberty Station president and CEO Lisa Johnson. “It’s right on the corner when you drive in, which is very important to have that ‘wow’ when people get here.”
For more than two decades, the old Naval Training C
