CHAUTAUQUA LAKE, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Since 2020, The Jefferson Project, which originally started at Lake George, has been collecting, testing and analyzing the conditions of Chautauqua Lake.

"We're on Chautauqua Lake mostly studying harmful algal blooms, including the nutrients that are fueling them, things like nitrogen and phosphorus," said Allison Hrycik, a research scientist for The Jefferson Project.

The Jefferson Project started at the lake in collaboration with the Chautauqua Institution and funding from the governor's office. Every two weeks, from April until November, scientists take water samples and various measurements throughout the lake.
