BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation released its preliminary review of laboratory results from Ischua Creek on Saturday following a massive fish kill at the creek.
"The data suggests the creek downstream of the Great Lakes Cheese facility had low dissolved oxygen and high levels of nutrients in exceedance of state standards," the DEC said in a statement. "This includes levels of nitrite and ammonia in the water that are toxic to fish and other aquatic life. Other water quality parameters which exceeded standards include manganese and total dissolved solids."
The DEC said its investigation began following reports of thousands of dead fish in Ischua Creek on Aug. 26. The DEC required Great Lakes Cheese to take "immediate actions to address im
