(KRON) -- Investigators said an aggressive driver on Interstate-880 in Oakland opened fire when he was unable to pass another vehicle.

Hakeem Jones, 36, is accused of shooting at a vehicle while he was driving on the busy freeway near the Market Street exit on August 15, prosecutors said.

Jones made his first court appearance Friday to face felony charges including assault with a semiautomatic firearm and shooting at an occupied motor vehicle.

"Jones and the victim were solo drivers on northbound I-880 when the victim noticed Mr. Jones driving aggressively through traffic and trying to pass other drivers on the freeway. When Mr. Jones was unable to pass the victim's vehicle, it is alleged that Mr. Jones fired multiple gunshots, striking the victim’s vehicle," the Alameda County District
