Maine Game Wardens and members of the Maine Association of Search and Rescue Technical Rescue Team rescued a telecommunications worker Friday after he became stranded on Soper Mountain the day before.
Chad Wilcox, 51, of Woodstock Valley, Connecticut, was hiking with two coworkers to service communications equipment when he became separated and trapped on a ledge with a steep drop, according to Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife spokesperson Mark Latti.
Soper Mountain is in northwest Piscataquis County.
Wardens reached him Thursday night but could not attempt a rescue due to the terrain.
On Friday morning, MASAR members trained in high-angle rope rescues lowered him nearly 200 feet to safety. Wardens then transported him off the mountain using ATVs. He was uninjured and
