Jamie Vardy chose Cremonese for the right reasons with the striker “hungry” to join the Italian’s side project, their manager has said.

Vardy signed a one-year deal with Cremonese on deadline day as he found a new home in northern Italy.

The 38-year-old wanted to sign for a top-flight club after choosing to leave City following 13 seasons at the King Power Stadium.

He found one in Cremonese, who are newly-promoted to Serie A and have started the campaign brilliantly, beating AC Milan and Sassuolo to sit third.

Vardy’s arrival has brought excitement to Cremona and hopes are rising of a City-esque fairytale.
