Cape Girardeau house fire deemed suspicious, investigation ongoing

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (WSIL) -- A fire broke out in a one-story home in Cape Girardeau in the 200 block of S. Middle Street on Friday, causing damage throughout the building.

The Cape Girardeau Fire Department reported they found the home about 25% involved with flames coming out of the windows when they arrived. They quickly were able to get the fire under control and conducted an overhaul.

Fire officials deemed the house fire suspicious and is under investigation with the cause still undetermined. Roughly $20,000 in damages were reported by fire officials.

The Jackson, Fruitland, and Gordonville fire departments assisted in the response.

Crews remained on the scene for about two hours to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
