Firefighters and members of an Urban Search and Rescue team were working Saturday to free a person who fell about 15 feet into a manhole in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles.

The situation was reported at 1:22 p.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of South Boyle Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Lyndsey Lantz. The age of the male patient was not immediately known, but he was believed to be seriously injured.

The search-and-rescue specialists planned to remove the patient for immediate transport by ambulance to a hospital, Lantz said.
