COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - The investigation continues into why dead pets were found in a Colorado Springs storage unit.

On Thursday, police and animal law enforcement with the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region made that discovery at a unit near Old Colorado City.

This has a stark similarity to other cases involving human remains at funeral homes, but this case is different.

Police this isn’t a criminal matter, but rather, a civil one. One attorney told 11 News the case likely won’t progress like recent funeral home cases.

“When you look at funeral home misconduct that we’ve been seeing a lot of in Colorado, often times a charge thars applicable is abuse of a corpse. There’s no corollary for a pet in the criminal law system,” former Arapahoe Deputy District Attorney Eric
