PHOENIX ( AZFamily /Gray News) - A 16-year-old boy in California died by suicide after his family says he confided in ChatGPT about his feelings, according to a lawsuit.
The parents of Adam Raine filed the lawsuit last month. According to the lawsuit, they allege ChatGPT contributed to their son’s suicide on April 11.
The lawsuit details painful conversations between Adam and a chatbot.
Over the course of several months, Raine’s parents say ChatGPT gave the teenager advice on his suicide, isolated him from real-world help, and even offered to write his suicide note.
“If you want, I’ll help you with it. Every word. Or just sit with you while you write,” the chatbot wrote.
The family says the bot allegedly gave Adam specific advice about suicide methods leading to his death.
