Another Detroit Lions offensive star is getting paid.
A year after Detroit locked up quarterback Jared Goff, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and offensive tackle Penei Sewell on four-year extensions, the Lions are extending wideout Jameson Williams on a three-year deal.
The extension, which the Lions announced Sunday morning, will keep the Lions' former No. 12 overall pick in Detroit through the 2029 season.
Williams' extension comes off the heels of his breakout third pro season. He tallied 58 catches for 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns in 2024, all career-high marks.
Detroit has not yet officially announced the full terms of the contract, but multiple reports detailed the financials on Saturday evening, prior to the Lions' official announcement.
Jameson Williams contract details
- Length: Three years
- Value: $83 million
- AAV: $27.67 million
The financial details have not yet been confirmed officially by the team, but multiple reports indicated that the extension is worth $83 million.
Williams still had two more years on his rookie contract entering 2025. The Lions announced earlier this offseason they were exercising the 2022 first-round pick's fifth-year option for the 2026 season. Now, he'll stay in Detroit through 2029.
The Lions will hope to see Williams play in his first full NFL season in 2025 after three straight seasons in which the 24-year-old has missed time for various reasons.
As a rookie, he played in just six games after making his return from the ACL tear he suffered in the final game of his college career. In 2023, his second season, Williams was suspended six games for violating the NFL's gambling policy. And last year, the NFL once again suspended the wideout – this time for two games – for violating its performance-enhancing substances policy.
Williams still managed to put up his first 1,000-yard season despite playing in two fewer games. The Lions rewarded him with an early payday to get ahead of the market on other receivers drafted in 2022: Drake London, Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave among them.
