VANCOUVER, Wash. — Evergreen Public Schools is expected to start Friday after a tentative agreement has been reached with the district and striking members of the classified employees union.

Schools remain closed Thursday. The district said Friday's start date is pending a vote from the union to ratified the reached agreement. Union leaders are scheduled to vote Thursday, and are expected to inform the district of the result shortly before 8 p.m., the district said.

If the contract is approved, the district will send a message out to staff and families, and classes will start Friday, more than two weeks after the original planned first day of the school year on Aug. 26.
