Shane Docken almost made a mistake that would have cost him his life.
"I had forgotten my helmet that morning — on Friday morning. And I came back, opened my garage, put my helmet back on and then rode to work. And I was a little bit late because of it," said Docken.
Little did he know, on his bike ride back home, his survival would depend on it.
"Gladly, I had my helmet on, because truly, the doctor told me that saved my life," said Docken.
He was making the same commute to work he always takes, going northbound on the sidewalk on 60th Street on the west side. Next thing he knew, a driver turned into the sidewalk, hitting Docken.
"I flipped basically head over end and smashed my face on the A-frame of this car, cracking the top of his windshield and denting the A-frame
