A mom and her baby girl are safe after an unexpected delivery in the parking lot of Lime Ridge Mall early Friday.

The expectant mom and dad were en route to hospital just after 6 a.m. when they realized they were not going to make it and called 911, said Const. Trevor McKenna of the Hamilton police. As the couple passed Upper Wentworth Street, they decided to pull into the parking lot of the Hamilton Mountain mall.

They called 911 from the Lincoln Alexander Parkway at 6:16 a.m. and, by 6:22 a.m., the baby girl had arrived in the back of their car.

“The little girl decided that was the time,” said Sgt. Clint Twolan, who along with Const. Nathan Portillo, responded to the call.
