Hickory soccer went without all-state senior Braeden McCourt last week. He was injured in the game against St. Stephens on Aug. 28. Head coach David Neiland said McCourt should be back soon, but he’s not going to rush it.

“He’s still recovering a bit,” Nieland said. “We’ll probably rest him for a few weeks at this point.”

Nieland also said the collision was so intense that the ball that was caught between the players had to be replaced because it deflated.

Hickory lost the conference opener without McCourt to East Lincoln 2-1 on Tuesday. Roberto Lira scored the goal for the Red Tornadoes and Nathan Perez had the assist.

On Thursday, Hickory played to a 0-0 tie in a nonconference game with Mount Tabor.
