LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Over seven million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, and people in Lake Charles are joining the fight to find a cure.

About one in nine people over 65 has the disease, according to the Alzheimer’s Association.

“We fundraise for a cure, and we fundraise for research. Locally, we actually have three research grants that we are funding in Louisiana and right here in this area, and in Lafayette, we found out for 2025 we have a research grant that we are funding in the Lafayette area,” said Delores Hurst, executive director of the Louisiana Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Over 200 people registered to participate in this weekend’s 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s, an event that continues to grow each year.
