CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. (KPTV) - An Oregon City couple charged with criminal mistreatment after their newborn died in 2023 returned to court Monday to change their pleas and receive their sentences.

Taylor and Blair Edwards, who belong to the Followers of Christ Church, both pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal mistreatment on Monday in the death of their son, Hayden who died in June 2023.

The couple was accused of not seeking medical care for Hayden when he stopped eating two days after he was born and showed signs of severe illness.

The couple relied on faith healing instead of medical treatment. The faith of Followers of Christ abstains from medical treatment for their children and believe in faith healing.
