A 34-year-old man from Southern California faces multiple charges, including murder, after allegedly killing two men he met through a dating app. Rockim Prowell, of Inglewood, is also accused of attempting to murder a third victim in a series of violent incidents that prosecutors describe as predatory.

Prowell was charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of Miguel Angel King, 51, and Robert Gutierrez, 53. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced the charges on Monday. Prosecutors say both men connected with Prowell through the same unnamed dating app.

King was reportedly murdered on July 20, 2021, after meeting Prowell. Following their meeting, King’s remains were discovered in the Angeles National Forest nearly a month later. Forensic evidence linked Prowell to King’s vehicle, which was stolen after the alleged murder.

Gutierrez disappeared after arranging to meet Prowell on August 21, 2023. His family reported him missing two days later, and his body has not been located. When Prowell was arrested last week, authorities found Gutierrez’s car in his garage.

In a separate incident earlier this year, a third man who met Prowell through the dating app was bound, robbed, and beaten with a baseball bat. The victim managed to escape but was chased by Prowell, who struck him with a vehicle, resulting in a broken leg.

District Attorney Nathan Hochman commented on the case, stating, "Imagine the terror and horror these victims felt after being duped into believing they were meeting for one reason, only to face inexplicable violence. These were predatory acts that showed a total disregard of life."

Prowell is also charged with attempted murder, carjacking, second-degree burglary, and assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held on $2 million bail and is scheduled for arraignment. It is unclear if he has legal representation at this time.

If convicted, Prowell could face life in prison without the possibility of parole or even the death penalty, depending on future decisions by prosecutors. At the time of his arrest, he was on probation for previous burglaries committed in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles between 2019 and 2021.
