A United States Guard move to decommission hundreds of navigational buoys from Maine to New York has been delayed, at least for now, following an outcry from harbormasters, public officials and mariners up and down the coast.
In mid-August, Angus King, a United States Senator from Maine, announced that the Coast Guard has agreed to extend the review process for the decommissioning plan, and said that an updated plan, with additional time for public comment, will be released some time in the fall. The move came after pressure from his office and many of his colleagues, as well as local officials throughout the Northeast.
