PIKE COUNTY, Ill. (WGEM) - The Pike County Sheriff’s Department reported Monday the arrest of two people after a single-vehicle crash led to the discovery of illegal drugs.

Matthew G. Lawrence, 40 and Jessica K. Pope, 28, of Champaign, Illinois, were arrested.

According to the sheriff, Lawrence and Pope fled after crashing around 10:30 p.m. Friday on Interstate 72.

Witnesses said they reported seeing a male and a female at the scene and stopped to offer assistance, but the male and female declined.

The sheriff stated a tow-inventory of the vehicle revealed crack cocaine, heroin, additional controlled substances, used hypodermic needles, digital scales, and other drug-related paraphernalia.
