A United Steelworkers leader said the union has had little contact with U.S. Steel's new owner, Nippon Steel, since the $14.9 billion acquisition closed in June.
USW District 7 Director Mike Millsap said the union had reached out to Tokyo-based Nippon Steel a few times since the deal closed and had not yet heard back. The union, which had vocally and frequently opposed the sale of the steelmaker to a foreign company, had been trying to establish talks in anticipation of next year's contract talks.
