MICHIGAN CITY — Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch is replacing the leader of the Michigan City Police Department amid a seeming surge of gun violence in LaPorte County's most populous community.
The Democratic chief executive announced Monday she's appointed former Chief Steve Forker , who currently serves as assistant chief of operations, as Michigan City's top cop beginning Sept. 14.
Forker, who previously served as chief from October 2022 to January 2024, replaces Chief Marty Corley , who will remain with the department as a sergeant.
