YORKTOWN, Va. — A sailor has pleaded guilty during a special court martial to dereliction of duty after a boating incident in April 2024 led to the death of another sailor.
The Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Public Affairs Office said Master-at-Arms Second Class Petty Officer Jackson Bower, assigned to Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, pleaded guilty to dereliction of duty on Monday. He was also charged with making a false official statement and negligent homicide in the death of 22-year-old Master-at-Arms Third Class Lyndon Cosgriff-Flax of Wichita, Kansas.
Bower was sentenced to 70 days in the Navy's Chesapeake Brig.
Court documents previously showed that on the afternoon of the crash, the Delta Duty Section of Harbor Patrol Unit Yorktown took the watch, according to trial counsel. They h
