SC: Knife-wielding suspect shot by deputy in the Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. —

Law enforcement is investigating after an officer-involved shooting in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, on Monday.

According to deputies, the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office responded to a call at 535 Bridgeford Lane around 7:30 p.m.

A deputy encountered an individual holding a large kitchen knife when the officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was shot and taken to the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Officials said the deputy was not injured.

The deputy involved was placed on paid administrative leave which is standard protocol.
