A few deal to lift interprovincial trade barriers between Ontario and Manitoba had millions of Torontonians scrambling for their glove compartments to see if they’ve got that old road atlas in there somewhere.
“I haven’t been further than Muskoka in nearly forty years,” said Toronto resident Diane Kehler. “Manitoba? That’s out there by Alberta somewhere, isn’t it?”
Manitoba and Ontario do nearly 20 billion in trade each year as it is, but that hasn’t meant that anyone in Toronto knows where it is.
“We try our best to educate,” said former Manitoban Susie Wiebe, “but they’re not very quick learners. Most of my friends are not aware of anything further west than Yonge Street.”
