Businesses can resume sending packages to the US with Australia's postal service winding back a decision to halt the service.

Australia Post announced the temporary ban on sending items worth more than $150 in late August, effective immediately.

But on Tuesday the Commonwealth-owned corporation announced the suspension would be lifted no later than September 25 for business customers, through a deal with a third-party provider.

"We've been working around the clock to find a solution," Australia Post's Gary Starr said in a statement, adding that the organisation had been "caught in a fast-moving situation not of our making".
