HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — The Hartford City Council officially confirmed the appointment of James Rovella as the city's chief of police on Monday after he shared his goals with the city council in previous weeks.
Rovella has been serving as the interim chief for the Hartford Police Department since February. According to Hartford Mayor Arunan Arulampalam, morale in the department shot up since Rovella was appointed as interim chief.
The Committee of the Whole, during a virtual meeting on Aug. 20, discussed Rovella's plans heading toward his official confirmation. Rovella stated that his plans included requiring education and training, expanding community engagement, and preparing officers for potential promotion within the department.
