DENTON, Texas — Dozens gathered Monday evening at North Lakes Park in Denton to remember Tro’Mario Allen Jr., an 18-year-old Denton High School football player who died unexpectedly two weekends ago .

Allen, who wore No. 3 for the Broncos, was honored with a balloon release as family, teammates, coaches, and classmates shared stories and leaned on one another in grief.

“He was very fun to be around, like we’ll never forget him,” one teammate said.

Allen’s mother thanked the community for rallying around her. “From the time I brought him to Texas, y’all have been helping me stay strong,” she told the crowd.
