LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Fayette County School Board’s much-anticipated planning meeting is now over.
The meeting was the first time the district’s entire working budget was presented to the board amid the projected $16 million dollar shortfall.

The meeting kicked off at 5:30 p.m. and lasted about five hours.
Deputy Superintendent Dr. Houston Barber says now that the budget is balanced, the goal is to keep it that way. The district was able to balance the projected $16 million shortfall while leaving the contingency at $27 million or 3.9% of the general fund.
Superintendent Liggins says that with the contingency now below the district’s 6% requirement, the board will be asked to waive that requirement.
