(WKYT) - In the lead-up to America turning 250 years old, we are looking back at every day in ‘This Day In History.’

On this date in 1908, the first hour-long flight took to the sky.

Orville Wright piloted the flight five years after his brother, Wilbur, made the first successful flight in history with a self-propelled, heavier-than-air aircraft.

Orville flew the plane 120 feet in the air at 40 miles an hour.

Huge crowds gathered to watch as he broke multiple existing flight records.
