The Chicago Bears, trailing by three points to the Minnesota Vikings Monday night, made a questionable special teams call late in the game.

The Bears had just gotten a touchdown pass from Caleb Williams to Rome Odunze with 2:02 remaining in the game to trim the Vikings’ lead to 27-24, and they lined up for the ensuing kickoff.

Cairo Santos attempted to kick the ball through the back of the end zone, but it was returned by Ty Chandler, bringing the clock past the two-minute warning and allowing the Vikings to bleed away all but nine seconds of game clock on their ensuing drive.

In fact, it can be argued the Bears made a big mistake in not simply having Santos kick the ball out of bounds instead of trying to kick it out of the back of the end zone.
