FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A growing fire in Central California.

Action News captured video of smoke pushing into the sky on Monday as firefighters continue to try and gain containment of the Garnet Fire.

Lightning strikes started the fire more than two weeks ago, prompting thousands of firefighters from across the country to help battle the blaze.

Adrienne Freeman with the U.S. Forest Service says dead timber and vegetation has been fueling the flames.

"There's just more energy on the ground to burn. You see more smoke, you see more spread, it's very conducive to fire spread, and very resistant to control," she said.

In the span of just a couple of days, the fire grew by about 20,000 acres.
