MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A man was seriously injured when a driver hit him and fled the scene in Whitehaven, the Memphis Police Department (MPD) said.

Officers responded to an accident at East Raines Road and Millbranch just before 8 p.m. Saturday.

A Memphis Fire crew was at the corner of the intersection when they saw a pedestrian tossed in the air after being struck by a car, police said.

According to MPD, another witness also saw the pedestrian struck by a car while trying to cross the street.

The witness said there was a group of three cars driving south on Millbranch when the crash happened but was not sure which car struck him, police said.

MPD said the man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
