Kentucky juniors will be required to take a new college admissions exam this year after Kentucky Department of Education leaders quietly made the switch — prompting questions about the implementation process and whether state law was followed.
All rising seniors in Kentucky must take a college admissions exam that assesses their English, reading, math and science skills. For nearly two decades, the commonwealth has used the ACT to meet that requirement. This summer, though, KDE executed a contract with the administrators of SAT instead . The switch was made at least in part because of the cheaper cost of the new contract, according to an email sent by Education Commissioner Robbie Fletcher.
