When news spread of Al Fracassa’s death on Sunday morning, it was no surprise when I saw the many tributes on social media all sharing a common theme: he was one of greatest high school football coaches the state has ever seen.

A living legend up until his death at the age of 92, Fracassa amassed 430 wins as a football coach split between Royal Oak Shrine and Bloomfield Hills Brother Rice. Only John Herrington of Farmington Hills Harrison has more wins in state history with 443.
