CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Heading to the beach on Tuesday? Gusty offshore winds are presenting some ocean hazards.

The National Weather Service has issued a ‘high rip current risk’ along the South Carolina coast beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday through the evening.

“Because of those strong winds out over the open waters, it’s generating that northeasterly swell and bringing us a high risk for rip currents today,” said Strom Team 2 Meteorologist Jed Christoph.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service remind those heading to the coast that rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from the shore into deeper water.
