MILLERSPORT, Ohio — Dozens of teachers, parents and alumni filled the Walnut Township Board of Education meeting Monday night at Millersport High School, calling for the district to finalize a fair contract agreement as teachers enter their fourth week of the school year without one.
Educators wore purple shirts reading “Worth More Than the Median” -- a direct reference to ongoing salary negotiations between the Walnut Township Education Association (WTEA) and the district, which have been underway since March. The union says teachers have been working without a contract since June 30, after the previous one expired.
“We’re kind of at an impasse,” said Michelle Peters, president of WTEA. “We’ve gone as far as we will go in this process.”
